A groundbreaking report outlining the 2030 sustainable aviation goals

Designing The 2030 Sustainable Aviation Goals report for global circulation
Aviation Impact Accelerator
Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA), led by the Whittle Laboratory and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), develops system-level models and policy frameworks to accelerate climate-neutral aviation.
In 2024, AIA published The 2030 Sustainable Aviation Goals: Five Years to Chart a New Future for Aviation, a strategic roadmap outlining four priority goals to support the sector’s transition towards net-zero climate impact by 2050.
This publication was intended as a structured policy instrument and designed for circulation across government, partners and global industry leaders.
The task
AIA required the report to exist as both a high-quality printed publication and a digitally accessible edition.
The objective was to present complex modelling, sector targets and policy recommendations in a format that conveyed authority, clarity and institutional credibility.
As the material was research-led and data-dense, it needed disciplined structure, visual coherence and typographic hierarchy suitable for senior decision environments.

Print and digital integration
While AIA authored the research and defined the policy direction, we shaped how the roadmap would be experienced in both physical and digital form. The report required clear editorial structure, purposeful narrative flow and visual coherence capable of carrying institutional authority.
We designed the publication in alignment with the visual identity framework of the University of Cambridge, establishing a considered typographic hierarchy, colour system and page architecture appropriate for institutional and policy-facing circulation.
In parallel, we developed a web-based digital edition that mirrors the printed structure, ensuring the roadmap remains accessible and authoritative across desktop and handheld devices.

Shaping a net-zero aviation roadmap for international circulation
The roadmap was introduced during Climate Week in New York and circulated across international aviation and policy forums, including COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
A copy was formally presented to King Charles III by Professor Rob Miller at Buckingham Palace as part of wider engagement on sustainable aviation leadership.

The report equipped AIA with a structured, authoritative document to support dialogue with government, industry and institutional stakeholders. Complex modelling and sector ambition were translated into a clear, disciplined publication suitable for discussion and long-term strategic reference.
